Design-based versus Model-based Methods: a Comparative Study Using Longitudinal Survey Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
Survey data analysis using complex sampling designs ought to account for clustering, stratification and unequal probability of selection. Design-based and model-based methods are two commonly used routes taken to account for such survey designs. Several studies of cross-sectional survey designs have shown that these two approaches provide similar results when the model fits the data well. The present paper aims at comparing these two approaches using the longitudinal National Population Health Survey (NPHS) dataset. The NPHS is an ongoing longitudinal study, for which data collection was based on a stratified multistage sampling design. A marginal modeling approach proposed by Rao (1998) was used by way of a design-based method. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) method, proposed by Liang and Zeger (1986), was used as a typical model-based approach. Results obtained from these methods were compared.

Bayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models
Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...

متن کاملDevelopment of a Design Procedure for Aeronautical Structures Based on Reliability
In this paper, an approach to aeronautical structural design based on reliability analysis is presented. In this way, the concept of level of safety is discussed and methods of its calculation using statistical data are described. Based on the concept of level of safety, a design procedure is proposed. In order to validate this design procedure, two design cases are studied. In the first case s...
متن کاملA Survey of Transitional Shifts in Physical Activity Behavior among Birjand Universities Employees Based on Transtheoretical Model: A longitudinal study of Iran, 2014
Introduction: Transtheoretical model (TTM) is one of the models applied to assess the physical activity behavior. From critiques to this model is that the majority of the studies based on the transtheoretical model have employed cross-sectional designs so that it fails to show the dynamic nature of change. Thus, the aim of the current study was to investigate transitional shifts in Physical Act...
